Type of Mantras on the basis of Syllables
a) Mono syllable The mantras in which only one syllable is used to invoke the universal power are called monosyllable mantras. BIJA Mantras are also monosyllable like LUM for Mooladhara Charka, VUM for Swadishthana Chakra, RUM for Manipur Chakra, and YUM for Anahata Chakra, HUM for Vishuddha Chakra and AUM for Ajna Chakra.
b) Verse The mantras in which more than 60 syllables are used are called verse Mantras. These mantras are descriptive in nature and praise about the qualities of the deity worshipped and the qualities it bestows to the sadhaka. One has to repeat them keeping in mind the pitch, frequency, sound, clarity and speed. Some example of such mantras is Gayatri mantra, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra etc.
