UJJAYI
SOBBING BREATH

Uj - superior, Jaya - Success. “It is called the HASA or The Sobbing Pranayam, where you draw the breath through the partially closed glottis and exhale either through both or any one nostril creating a soft humming sound within the throat.”

It is a heating pranayam which strengthens digestive and nervous system and expels the phlegm. To practice Ujjayi, inhale maximum to the lung capacity through both the nostrils keeping the glottis partially closed. This makes a faint sobbing sound as if you are breathing from throat and retain the breath applying the Vishnu mudra and then exhale from the left nostril/ right nostril.
