SCIENCE BEHIND MUDRAS

Mudras energize certain chakras. It is a mystical way of activating parts of the mind & soul.

There are different analysis as to how a Mudra works to balance & harmonize life current in the body & maintaining a healthy state of the mind & body.

Various theories behind the ancient science of Mudra :

1. 5 (Five) element theory/ Natures reason
2. Shiva and Shakti/ polarity/ Spiritual reason
3. Acupressure/ Reflexology/ Alternative Medicine reason
4. Activation of nerve endings/ Scientific reason
5. Chakra Activation/ Yogic View

THE FIVE ELEMENT THEORY
Human body is made up of five elements and 5 (Five) fingers represent either of the five elements :

Finger Element
Thumb Fire
Index finger Air
Middle Ether/sky
Ring Earth
Little Water

Thumb : The thumb is the symbol of divine energy, energy that flows through our vehicle unconditioned by our subconscious patterning or karmic complexities. The thumb is the symbol of will power power that can be drawn upon by our willing (not willfulness) consciousness.

Index: The index finger is known as the Jupiter finger and is the symbol of our ego personality; it symbolizes energies controlled by subconscious mind patterning's. Its energies produce expansion.

Middle: The middle finger, symbolizing the Saturn force, is the most karmic or the most conditioned energies. This finger is utilized only in those mudras that require heavy, stabilizing forces.

Ring: The ring finger symbolizes the Sun Energies. These energies relate to the Strength of an individual.

Little Finger: The little finger is known as the Mercury finger. It emanates energies that are important in the unfolding of the intellect and of business. When combined in different ways forming different mudras they balance the ratio and proportion of that element in the body. When pressed at tip it increases the element .when pressed under thumb it neutralizes the element. When pressed at the base of the finger/ back of second phalange, it decreases the element.

According to yogic view any disease in the body is due to the imbalance of one or more of the elements in the body. So by practicing Mudra one can heal thyself to maintain the ratio of that element
