What brings you peace?

With so much unrest swirling in both the world and in our daily lives, it's imperative that we remember how to connect with those things that bring a breath of relief to the mind, body, and spirit.

With so much unrest swirling in both the world and in our daily lives, it's imperative that we remember how to connect with those things that bring a breath of relief to the mind, body, and spirit.

Perhaps for you it's someone offering a warm cup of tea and a listening ear, dialing up your favorite music when overwhelm threatens to consume you, or a long walk in the woods, breathing in the earthy scent of balsam and fall leaves. Or maybe it's playtime with your children, giving your pup some much-deserved belly rubs, or seeking ways to soothe others when you're feeling a little broken yourself. There are so many different, beautiful paths to peace.

Can you remember who first nurtured you and how? What can you recall? A tone of voice, a sensation, a memory of certain setting? How did you learn to soothe yourself as a child? What emotions come to mind as you reflect on those moments?

Do you remember the cozy, safe, warmth the feeling that maybe it's all going to be okay after all? Do you recall that comfort, the relief after the storm of emotion, physical pain, or spiritual unrest? Those moments those relaxed sighsthose relieved exhales are soma. Defined as Peace of Mind; Moon-like; Nectar of the Mind, soma is that which brings ease, peace, rest, and coolness.

There's an easy repayment plan for our ancestors gifts, paternal and maternal lineages: sharing our knowledge and nurturing others. By caring for ourselves and those we love, we pay it forward. It's our turn to take the baton handed down from previous generations.

I have been fortunate to receive so much love, guidance, nurturing, and support during my lifetime. In reflecting on many of these sweet, nurturing, cooling moments of my own childhood, I am excited to share with you that I have put pen to paper (or cursor to Microsoft Word, as the case may be), and I have lovingly chosen a collection of 100 special heritage recipes, soon to be released as an e-book, Soma. These recipes for life were shared with me by my mother, grandmother, Guru, and others along the way and I am thrilled to pass them along to you.

Here, I share with you glimpses of my childhood indulging in treats with my siblings, playing childhood games until dusk, a teenager's perspective on beauty versus her Guru's, a family pilgrimage to the abode of the Goddess - along with treasured formulas to bring more soma to your life.

Some are literal recipes (such as my treasured cup of Indian chai), others are practices, reminders, tips, or habits that can bring you the moon-like coolness of soma. Whether you need to boost your energy or immunity, summon sleep, or need a pampering beauty fix, you will find it here. Soma is still in production, but I didn't want to miss this opportunity to honor my ancestors by sharing this news with you.
Idam na mama. It is not mine.

I encourage you to take time to consider YOUR version of Soma. Reflect. Journal. Give thanks to your ancestors and others who have brought peace and happiness to your heart. May we continue to keep this ancient healing alive, together!
